GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagle cross country teams took home the top individual honors this week from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as Julie Oosterhouse and Kevin Vroegh each were named the Runners of the Week. Both helped their teams to solid finishes in the Augustana Brissman/Lundeen Invitational.

(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Led by senior Julie Oosterhouse's fifth place finish, the Cornerstone Golden Eagles placed fifth out of 25 teams at Calvin College Knight Invitational.

A cool 48 degree morning followed a night of steady rain and the usually fast course ran slower than usual as the 292 runners churned the corners into mud over the repeating loops in the first two miles.

Oosterhouse positioned herself at the back of the lead pack then used a 5:48 final mile to move into fifth, clocking 18:24. Sophomore Cathy Coryell raced well finishing 27th in 19:13.

CU's third through sixth finishers were just nine seconds apart with senior, CallyAnne Wyma heading the pack (49th / 19:41) with Audrey Tremaine (53rd / 19:46), Ally Rabe (54th / 19:45 and Joy Reist (61st / 19:50) right behind.

Calvin took the team title with 27 points followed by St. Francis of Illinois with 109, Aquinas at 124, Case Western 135 and Cornerstone 170.

(Holland, Mich.)  Senior, Julie Oosterhouse opened her senior cross country season by winning the Vanderbilt Invitational, hosted by Hope College. The Golden Eagles took second to their hosts in the four-team field.

Oosterhouse and sophomore, Cathy Coryell raced together taking the lead in the second mile. On the 800 meter climb to the finish, Julie stretched a ten second gap into 37 over Emily Wrozek of Hope. Coryell finished fifth in 19:41.

A pack of five CU women ran conservatively through the opening mile then worked their way through the field. Still together at the three mile mark, the sprint to the finish sorted out the places. Freshman Ally Rabe took 17th in 20:42 followed by Audrey Tremaine in (18th / 20:44), CallyAnne Wyma (19th / 20:47), Kayla Ovokaitys (20th / 20:47) and Sydney Tremaine (22nd / 20:56).

In a virtual repeat of the 2013 race, Hope took the team title with 22 points followed by Cornerstone with 51, Adiran at 73 and Muskegon Community College's 102.
