The Golden Eagles travelled down to Detroit and defeated Marygrove 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-22) today to improve to 3-1 in the WHAC. Megan Newhouse led the Golden Eagles attack with 13 Kills. Four other Golden Eagles (Murphy Heyer, Heather Green, Cailie Schultz, and Tori Mielke) had at least 7 Kills in the match. Hope Leppink had 39 Assists in the game. Three Golden Eagles (Megan Newhouse, Heather Green, and Murphy Heyer) had 8 Digs each. Megan Newhouse and Tori Mielke both had 4 Blocks for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone improves to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in WHAC play. Cornerstone will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Adrian to play Siena Heights at 7:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagles made short work of Kuyper College this afternoon in Mol Arena. Johanna Egerer and Tori Mielke led the Golden Eagles with 11 and 10 Kills respectively. Abby Carlseon dished out 31 Assists. Johanna Egerer led the team with 9 Digs while Misty Brower had 8 digs. Cornerstone improved to 7-2 on the season.
The Golden Eagles returned to action at 7:00 p.m. against WHAC foe Lawrence Tech and came away with a 3-1 hard-fought victory. Megan Newhouse and Cailie Schultz led the team with 14 and 12 Kills each. Hope Leppink led the team with 42 Assists and 4 Aces. Megan Newhouse had 13 Digs while Amber Carmean and Heather Green both had 12 each. Cornerstone improves to 8-2 on the season and will return to action Saturday when they travel down to Detroit to play Marygrove.
Cornerstone faced #8 ranked Madonna tonight in their second WHAC contest of the season. The two teams played pretty even through 10-10 but Madonna made a 4-0 run on a service ace, and attack error and a couple of kills to take a 14-10 lead. The Golden Eagles would cut the lead to 2 (16-14) but that would be as close as they would get in the first set. The Crusaders made a 5-1 run to end the first set with a 25-18 win. The Golden Eagles battled back in the second set winning by a score of 25-21. Madonna had tied the score at 2-2 and 3-3 but then the Golden Eagles took the lead for good and would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set and would go on to win 25-21. The Golden Eagles hung tough in the early part of Game 3 tying the score at 8-8. Unfortunately, the Crusaders went on a 17-9 run to win the game 25-17. The Crusaders closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set for a 3-1 win. Megan Newhouse led the Golden Eagles with 13 Kills while Hope Leppink recorded 37 Assists. Libby Webber and Ellie Van Laar both had 3 Blocks. Amber Carmean and Heather Green had 18 and 15 Digs for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone drops to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday when they take on Kuyper College at 4:00 p.m. and Lawrence Tech at 7:00 p.m.
Cornerstone face (4-1) IU-South Bend today at 4:00 p.m. and they jumped out to an early lead in the first game and cruised in with a 25-15 win in set 1. The Titans bounced back to win set 2 by a score of 25-21. Cornerstone responded with a 25-17 win in the third set and closed the match out with a 25-16 score. Four Golden Eagles (Heather Green-16, Cailie Schultz-11, Ellie Van Laar-10, and Megan Newhouse-10) all had double figures in Kills in the match. Hope Leppink led the team with 50 Assists. Four players (Amber Carmean-26, Newhouse-17, Leppink-11, and Murphy Heyer had double figure Digs. Cornerstone improved to 5-1 with the win.
The Golden Eagles faced Lincoln Christian (Ill.) in their second match of the day at 7:00 p.m. Cornerstone won 25-10, 25-10, and 25-19 against the Red Lions. Megan Newhouse led the Golden Eagles with 8 Kills. Murphy Heyer and Ellie Van Laar had 6 Kills each. Hope Leppink had 33 Assists. Amber Carmean and Murphy Heyer had 11 and 10 Digs respectively. Cornerstone improved to 6-1 on the year. Cornerstone will travel to #4 Madonna on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagles opened WHAC play with a 3-1 win over Aquinas tonight. It was also 80's night and "Night of Nets" so a lot of people showed up in their 80's outfits and 750 bed nets will be heading to Africa this summer. The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start losing the first set 25-22. Cornerstone got going early in the 2nd set and went on to win 25-20 and followed with a win in the 3rd set 25-20. The Golden Eagles wrapped it up with a 25-22 victory in the 4th set to win the match 3-1. Freshman Heather Green and Junior Megan Newhouse led Cornerstone with 18 and 17 Kills respectively. Hope Leppink had 28 Assists in the match. Amber Carmean had 25 Digs for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will return to action on Friday when they take on IU-Southbend at 4:00 p.m. and Lincoln Christian at 7:00 p.m.
