GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, the cross-town Panthers were too much for the Golden Eagles as they swept the pair of games 13-2 and 3-2. The pair of losses drops Cornerstone to 8-15 on the season and 1-5 in league action. CU will return to play on Friday and Saturday in a 4-game series at Madonna University.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Cornerstone baseball team will have its hands full this week with two of the perennial powers in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on the schedule as they head to Davenport on Tuesday for a DH and then Madonna over the weekend. The Golden Eagles are 1-3 in league action and 8-13 overall on the season heading into their second straight 6-game week.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Golden Eagles saw their offense quieted by the Indiana Tech pitching staff as they fell in a pair of games 8-2 and 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne. The two setbacks drop Cornerstone to 8-13 on the year and 1-3 in league action. CU will return to DeWitt Field to host Spring Arbor on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Thanks to a late inning rally in the opener, the Cornerstone baseball team came away with a split against Indiana Tech on Friday afternoon in Fort Wayne. Ryan Harris (JR/Crystal Lake, Ill.) came in and got his second win of the year to help CU win 4-3 in the opener before the Warriors came away with a 2-1 victory in the nightcap. The two teams will meet Saturday for a pair of games starting at 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles returned to action today after having the last 11 days off after their Florida trip. Cornerstone ran away with the first game scoring 3 runs in consecutive innings and went on to defeat Indiana Wesleyan 10-3 in the first game of the double header. The Wildcats took the lead a couple of times only to see the Golden Eagles tie it in the bottom half of the inning. The game remained tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 7th. Cornerstone loaded the bases and Evan Wagner bunted to the pitcher to score Sonny Mastromatteo to give Cornerstone a 4-3 win and a sweep of the Wildcats.
