The Golden Eagles didn't start well today in the WHAC Quarterfinal as Aquinas controlled the play for the first 30 minutes of play.  Cornerstone got a couple of shots but nothing too dangerous in that time.  Aquinas got on the board first in the 30th minute of play when a ball skipped through the Golden Eagle defense and to Melissa Hogan who settled the ball and beat Allison Snowden to her left side.   Cornerstone played much better after the goal and Lexanna Siemasz got a nice shot on goal that was saved by the Saints GK.  The Saints outshot Cornerstone 7-3 in the first half of play.  The Golden Eagles came back after the break and played very well for the first 15 minutes.  Cornerstone tied the game when Teigan Mitcham received a ball and turned and put the ball in the back of the net in the 56th minute of play.  Aquinas got their second in the 64th minute against the run of play.  A ball was played across the top of the box and got past Rachel Schutter who was marking a player and went straight to Elizabeth Vaughn who calmly put it into the goal from about 12 yards out.  Cornerstone kept fighting to get the equalizer but the Saints got a third off of a corner kick in the 77th minute.  Cornerstone looked to have gotten one back after that but was called for a hand ball on the goal.  The Golden Eagles finish the season with a 9-7-2 record.  Aquinas will move on to play University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday.  Madonna will take on Davenport in the other semifinal.

The Golden Eagles had to play their last two games on the road to finish out the WHAC regular season and they finished up at Siena Heights today with a 1-1 tie.  The Saints had the better of the play for the first 15 minutes of the game winning a lot of the 50-50 balls but the Golden Eagles settled in and played better in the last 30 minutes of play.  Cornerstone got a couple of good chances in the first half.  Kerri Hoffman got into the box and hit a shot that the Saints keeper just got a hand on to keep it out of the goal.  The Saints did out shoot the Golden Eagles 8-3 in the first half but scoring chances were few for both team.  Cornerstone played much better in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net.  The Saints got on the board in the 68th minute when Mikayla Ferer picked up a rebound and put it in the open net to give Siena Heights a 1-0 lead.  The Golden Eagles put in a third attacker for the last 20 minutes and they had a couple of good chances but they were able to beat the GK until the 88th minute.  A ball was shot and rebound back to Rachel Wood that hit a first time shot from about 35 yards out the went over the SHU keeper and under the crossbar for the goal.  The game went to overtime and Cornerstone had good chances in both OT's from Rebekah Eggleston.  Eggleston just shot over the bar in the first overtime and missed to the right in the second overtime.  The game ended in a 1-1 tie.   Cornerstone finishes tied with Siena Heights in the WHAC with a 4-3-2 record but SHU holds the tie breaker so the Golden Eagles finish 6th and will play Aquinas in the first round of the playoffs.  That game will be played at 2:00 p.m. at Aquinas on Wednesday, Nov. 6th.

The Golden Eagles travelled to Madonna to take on the Crusaders in a crucial WHAC contest as Cornerstone is battling for home field advantage for the playoffs.  Madonna put a damper on things early scoring just .90 seconds into the game on a long shot to give them a 1-0 lead.  It was a very cold and windy day that featured most of the play between the penalty boxes and not a lot of shots.  Cornerstone did score in the first half of play but the goal was disallowed because of an offside call.  Cornerstone outshot Madonna 3-2 in the first half of play.  The Golden Eagles had to go into the wind in the second half of play and they were able to continue to keep the ball and they had another great chance in the second half.  Cornerstone was awarded a free kick around midfield and they played a quick ball and then served the ball into the box where Lexie Brisson-Fast flicked the ball with her head and beat the keeper but the ball bounced off the post and then was saved off the line by a defender.  Cornerstone outshot Madonna 2-0 in the second half of play.  Cornerstone drops to 9-6-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the WHAC.  The Golden Eagles will close out the season with a game on the road against Siena Heights next Saturday at 4:30 p.m.  Cornerstone can finish as high as fourth and as low as seventh depending on all the results of the last games.  Check back for times, opponents, and sites for the WHAC playoffs which will start on Nov. 6th.

Mitcham scores in loss to Aquinas
Wood scored a goal from about 35 yards in last minutes to tie the game
Rachel Schutter played very well in the back against Madonna
