(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Cornerstone senior, Louis Falland cruised to a convincing win at the Knight Invitational hosted by Calvin College. The overnight rain and the preceding women's race turned sections of the 8 kilometer course in to slick mud, slowing times at the usually fast Gainey Athletic Complex.

Running with the leaders from the start, Falland moved to the front after three miles and held the lead to the finish, winning by six seconds in 25:06. The only real drama in the race came when the lead vehicle got stuck twice and required the help of spectators to get it moving before the runners caught up.

Senior, Jared Holmberg paced a pair of freshmen. Holmburg placed 87th in 27:22 with Kevin Vroegh (98th / 27:30) and Brent Dunn (109th / 27:39) close behind.  Sophomore, Jacob Benson completed the team scoring taking 156th in 28:19.

Calvin won with 55 points ahead of two top ranked NAIA teams – St. Francis (Ill) with 79 and Aquinas at 109. Cornerstone took eleventh with 303 points.

08/30/2014 - Men's Cross Country

(Holland, Mich.) For the fourth time in the last five years, Cornerstone Alum, Zach Ripley won the Vanderbilt Cross Country Invitational. Ripley was joined by CU senior, Louis Falland for most of the race taking second.

The two ran the first half of the 8 kilometer race under course record pace of 24:59 set by Ripely in 2010.  Zach pulled away in the second half to in in 25:10. Falland's 25:39 was the top collegiate time and 48 seconds ahead of third.

The Golden Eagles put four freshmen in their top seven, led by Brent Dunn's 27:57 in eleventh. Senior Jared Holmberg finished two seconds and one place back. Kevin Vroegh debuted in 28:18 for 18th while sophomore, Jacob Benson (28:36 / 22nd) worked with Zach Feldpausch (28:39 / 23rd). Trevor Curtis filled the seventh spot running 30:11 for 32nd.

Adrian College put five in the top ten to win the team title with 30 points. Hope was second with 42 followed by Cornerstone's 61. Muskegon Community College finished fourth with 107.
