(Lima, Ohio) The Golden Eagles opened up WHAC play today at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Cornerstone entered the game with a 5-0-2 record while UNOH entered the game with a 6-0-1 record. The Golden Eagles played a tough first half keeping the Racers off the scoreboard. The Racers dominated possession in the first half of play but the Golden Eagles kept them from getting quality chances and Allison Snowden made a nice save late in the half to keep a clean sheet. The Racers did break the ice early in the second half scoring in the first minute of play to put Northwestern Ohio up 1-0. The Golden Eagles responded with some good play after that doing a much better job of keeping the ball and creating more in the attack. Cornerstone battled to the end but couldn't find the back of the net and ended with a 1-0 loss. Cornerstone will returns to action on Wednesday night when they play Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne at 7:00 p.m.
(Pontiac, Mich.) The Golden Eagles played Rochester College today and came away with a 5-1 victory. Cornerstone started off pretty fast today scoring their first goal around 4 minutes into the game. Freshman Mykayla Denison collected a clear, took a touch to her right and hit a shot to the far post to make it 1-0. Josie Litty made it 2-0 in the 12th minute on a through ball from Lexie Brisson-Fast. Brisson-Fast flicked a header on to Litty that was in on a 1 v 1 and she volleyed the ball past the Rochester GK for the 2nd goal. Jess Erny made it 3-0 just before the half. Erny received a ball from Teigan Mitcham and she launched a long range shot over the top of the GK into the far post to give Cornerstone a 3-0 advantage. Tori Johns added to the total in the 49th minute on a shot that the GK mishandled. That was off of a give and go from Lexie Brisson-Fast. Brisson-Fast then got in on the scoring herself. Mykayla Denison got the ball at the top of the box and drew a couple of defenders before laying it off to Lexie who to a prep touch and rifled a ball into the far post to put the Golden Eagles up 5-0. Cornerstone conceded a goal off of a penalty kick in the 60th minute. Neither team would score after that and it ended as a 5-1 win for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone will go into WHAC play this coming Saturday when they open up on the road against University of Northwestern Ohio at 3:00 p.m. in Lima, Ohio.
The Golden Eagles hosted Goshen College tonight and they got a quick start. Tori Johns played a give and go with Kerri Hoffman around the top of the box and a defender poked the ball away but right to Lexie Brisson-Fast that cut the ball by her defender and then slid the ball under the GK with 39:28 left in the half. Brisson-Fast scored her second goal of the game with about 6 minutes left in the half. She got a ball played over the top and the defender misplayed the ball and Brisson-Fast hit a volley past the GK to make it 2-0. Lexie made it 3-0 with just over 4 minutes left in the half. Teigan Mitcham laid a ball out to Jessica Erny who hit a one time cross to Brisson-Fast for a header into the right side of the goal. Cornerstone would go on to outshoot the Maple Leafs 20-2 on the game but wouldn't find the back of the net again. The Golden Eagles move to 4-0-2 on the season. Cornerstone will have the weekend off and will return to action next Tuesday when they take on Rochester in Pontiac at Ultimate Soccer Arena at 3:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagles hosted Grace Bible tonight in a non-conference game and they played very well in a 7-0 win. Junior Josie Litty opened the scoring in the 10th minute of play on an assist from Kerri Hoffman. Litty hit a shot from just outside the box into the upper left side of the goal. Kerri Hoffman scored the second goal unassisted on a deflected shot the wrong footed the GK to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Lexanna Siemasz made it 3-0 just a couple minutes later on a rebound the she hit to the lower right corner of the goal. Cornerstone had 29 shots in the first half of play. Josie Litty opened the second half with a goal in just 4 minutes. Litty hit a ball from the right side of the goal that the Tiger GK couldn't get to completely and she pushed the ball into the goal. The freshman took over at this point. Kelsey Gensler scored her second goal of the season on a cross from Ashton Gossett to make it 5-0 at 58:13. Gossett dished out another assist to Mykayla Denison in the 78th minute and then scored one of her own by pouncing on a rebound and putting it in the net in the 83rd minute. The Golden Eagles played most of the non-starters for most of the second half and they played very well. Cornerstone improves to 3-0-2 on the season. Cornerstone will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Goshen College at 7:00 p.m.
