09/16/2014 - Women's Soccer

The Golden Eagles hosted Goshen College tonight and they got a quick start.  Tori Johns played a give and go with Kerri Hoffman around the top of the box and a defender poked the ball away but right to Lexie Brisson-Fast that cut the ball by her defender and then slid the ball under the GK with 39:28 left in the half.  Brisson-Fast scored her second goal of the game with about 6 minutes left in the half.  She got a ball played over the top and the defender misplayed the ball and Brisson-Fast hit a volley past the GK to make it 2-0.  Lexie made it 3-0 with just over 4 minutes left in the half.  Teigan Mitcham laid a ball out to Jessica Erny who hit a one time cross to Brisson-Fast for a header into the right side of the goal.  Cornerstone would go on to outshoot the Maple Leafs 20-2 on the game but wouldn't finid the back of the net again.  The Golden Eagles move to 4-0-2 on the season.  Cornerstone will have the weekend off and will return to action next Tuesday when they take on Rochester in Pontiac at Ultimate Soccer Arena at 3:00 p.m.

09/13/2014 - Women's Soccer

The Golden Eagles hosted Grace Bible tonight in a non-conference game and they played very well in a 7-0 win.  Junior Josie Litty opened the scoring in the 10th minute of play on an assist from Kerri Hoffman.  Litty hit a shot from just outside the box into the upper left side of the goal.  Kerri Hoffman scored the second goal unassisted on a deflected shot the wrong footed the GK to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute.  Lexanna Siemasz made it 3-0 just a couple minutes later on a rebound the she hit to the lower right corner of the goal.  Cornerstone had 29 shots in the first half of play.  Josie Litty opened the second half with a goal in just 4 minutes.  Litty hit a ball from the right side of the goal that the Tiger GK couldn't get to completely and she pushed the ball into the goal.  The freshman took over at this point.  Kelsey Gensler scored her second goal of the season on a cross from Ashton Gossett to make it 5-0 at 58:13.  Gossett dished out another assist to Mykayla Denison in the 78th minute and then scored one of her own by pouncing on a rebound and putting it in the net in the 83rd minute.  The Golden Eagles played most of the non-starters for most of the second half and they played very well.  Cornerstone improves to 3-0-2 on the season.  Cornerstone will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Goshen College at 7:00 p.m.

09/10/2014 - Women's Soccer

The Women's soccer game scheduled for today has been postponed and is rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28th at 4:00 p.m.

09/06/2014 - Women's Soccer

The Golden Eagles started off very well today in their 2014 "Night of Nets" game.  Junior captain Teigan Mitcham scored her first goal of the season just 3 minutes into the game.  Kerri Hoffman beat a player on the right side of the field and sent a cross over the top of the Forresters defense to Mitcham who headed the ball into the goal.  Lexie Brisson-Fast made it 2-0 in the 6th minute on another Kerri Hoffman assist.  Hoffman played a ball through to Brisson-Fast on the right side and Brisson-Fast got behind her defender and beat the GK in a 1 v 1.  Freshman Morgan Haddad scored her first collegiate goal in the 15th minute.  Lexie-Brisson Fast played a ball across the face of the goal to Haddad who one timed the ball into the goal to make it 3-0.  The Golden Eagles picked up where they left off to start the second half.  Kerri Hoffman took a pass from Josie Litty on a corner and she lofted a left footed shot over the Forrester keeper to make it 4-0.  Hoffman scored her second and the team's fifth goal in the 67th minute.  Lexanna Siemasz scored her first goal of the season in the 76th minute.  Siemasz collect a ball off of a corner kick and hit a nice shot just inside the far post to make it 6-0.  The Golden Eagles gave up a couple of late goals to make it a 6-2 win for Cornerstone.  Cornerstone improves to 2-0-2 on the season.  Hayley Mohr picked up her first win of the season in the goal.  Cornerstone will host St. Xavier (Ill.) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

08/30/2014 - Women's Soccer

The Golden Eagles started off very well today controlling the ball and the tempo of the game.  Cornerstone created some nice chances early in the game and they got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute of play.  Cornerstone was awarded their fifth corner kick of the game in the 21st minute.  Kerri Hoffman sent a ball across the face of the goal and defender Kate Wiegman scored her first goal of the season by heading the ball into the goal from about 6 yards out.  Cornerstone kept pressing the Cougars through the remainder of the half but couldn't find the back of the net.  "It was a very good first half performance by the team and we should have scored at least one more goal from the chances we created" said Coach Strawser.

The second half was much more even in terms of possession and chances.  Both teams created some dangerous opportunities.  The Cougars capitalized on one of their in the 67th minute.  They played a ball over the top of the right side of our defense, collected it and played the ball across the face of the goal to their leading scorer who one timed the ball into the goal.  Each team created some good chances in attempt to win the game in regulation but neither found the back of the net.

The team played similar in the overtimes.  Lexie Brisson-Fast had Cornerstone's best opportunity late in the second overtime only to be thwarted by a great save by the Cougar GK.  St. Francis also had an opportunity after that on a Corner Kick in the last seconds of the game but Allison Snowden handled a tough cross and kept the ball out of the goal as time was running out.

Cornerstone created a lot of chances and had 18 Corner Kicks compared to 4 by St. Francis.  Shots were even at 9 for each team.  "We certainly created enough chances to score more goal and we need to keep working to find ways to finish off those chances".

Cornerstone improves to 1-0-2 on the season and will return to action next Saturday when they host Huntington University (Ind.) in our "Night of Net's" game this season.  That game will kick-off at 7:00 p.m.  A suggested donation of $6 will gladly be accepted at the gate to help buy bed nets to send to Africa this summer.
