11/11/2013 - Men's Soccer

The announcement was made this weekend for the 2013 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Awards.  The Cornerstone men's soccer team placed one player on the WHAC All-Conference Team, one to the Honorable Mention All-Conference Team and one player to the Champions of Character Team.

Highlighting the awards, senior Jordan Wilson was honored as the WHAC Defensive Player of the Year and tabbed to the All-Conference First Team.  Freshman Mario Williams drew All-Conference Honorable Mention honors while senior Mark Kunnen was named to the Champions of Character Team.

In addition, Kunnen, senior Justin Schoeopke and juniors Brendan Powers and Marcel Santana were tabbed to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.  

The Golden Eagles finishing fifth in the WHAC regular-season, after going 5-4-1 in conference play, ended their season on Saturday after a 2-0 loss to Madonna University in the conference quarterfinals.

11/09/2013 - Men's Soccer

The #5 seeded Golden Eagles had to travel to #4 seed Madonna today for their WHAC Quarterfinal and they ended with a 2-0 loss.  The Golden Eagles outshot the Crusaders 7-4 in the first half and 8-4 in the second half but Madonna finished one shot in each half to defeat Cornerstone 2-0 to move on to the WHAC Semifinal to play the winner of the Davenport - Concordia game to be played tonight.  Tristan Esprit had four shots in the game and Jordan Wilson had three shots for the Golden Eagles.  Miguel Cervantes had three saves for Cornerstone.  Cornerstone finishes the season with a 9-7-1 record.

11/02/2013 - Men's Soccer

The Golden Eagles got things started quickly today against Lawrence Tech.  Gareth Flynn took a pass from Mario Williams and scored just 2:25 into the first half of play.  Lawrence Tech got a shot and three corner kicks in the first fifteen minutes but that would be about all the offense they could generate in the first half of play.  Cornerstone ended up outshooting the Blue Devils 6-2 in the first half of play.  The Golden Eagles would turn up the heat in the second half outshooting Lawrence Tech 12-5 in the second half of play but they couldn't get any more past the Blue Devil keeper.  Miguel Cervantes and Nic Hopkins combined for the shutout.  Cornerstone improved to 5-4-1 in the WHAC and finished 5th.  The Golden Eagles will face #4 Madonna next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (tentative) in the WHAC Tournament.  Click here to see full tournament schedule.

10/26/2013 - Men's Soccer

The Golden Eagles got the start they wanted against Indiana Tech.  Nick Manzer scored his first goal of the season off of a Richard Moylan corner kick just 1:57 into the first half of play.  Cornerstone made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute of play.  Mario Williams took a pass from Ian Taylor and placed his shot to the lower left side of the goal for his fifth goal of the year.  Cornerstone outshot Indiana Tech 11-6 in the first half of play.  The Golden Eagles kept up the pressure in the second half of play.  Mario Williams made it 3-0 by heading in a Richard Moylan cross in the 60th minute of play.  The Golden Eagles outshot the Warriors 9-3 in the second half of play.  Nick Hopkins went the distance in the goal and picked up his first win of the season.  Cornerstone improved to 8-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the WHAC.  Cornerstone will conclude regular season play next Saturday when they host Lawrence Tech at 7:00 p.m.
