04/14/2014 - Men's Golf

The Cornerstone University Men's Golf team was set to participate in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship today and tomorrow but because of severe weather forecasted for the Kentwood area the championship has been moved to April 16 & 17.

Davenport University will host the event at Stonewater Country Club.  Tee times are set for a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start as players will play 36 holes on Wednesday and 18 on Thursday.  The Golden Eagles will enter the event placed fourth after finishing the fall season with a 1539 team stroke total.  

 
10/21/2013 - Men's Golf

The Cornerstone men's golf team travels to Kohler, Wis., to participate in the Kohler Collegiate Classic hosted by Ashford University.  The tournament features eight teams in last year's postseason NAIA rankings including No. 3 Texas Wesleyan and NAIA Midwest Inv. Champion Grand View who falls in at number eight.  The tournament is contested at prestigious Whistling Straits that hosted the 2004 and 2010 PGA Championships and will host again in 2015 along with the Ryder Cup in 2020.  Two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday will determine a team and individual champion. 

After finishing the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Regular Season, the Golden Eagles stand in fourth place before the conference championship in the fall.  The non-conference tournament will be the last of the fall tournaments for the men's golf team.  Sam Vos will lead CU during the event after being named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.  The junior from Grand Haven finished the fall regular season 15th overall averaging a score of 77.  Golden Eagles' Tyler Coyne also finished 12th overall averaging a 76.8 in five rounds.  

 
10/13/2013 - Men's Golf

Men's Golf wrapped up their fall season and finished 4th out of 10 with a team total of 1539 strokes.  The Golden Eagles finished by #1 Davenport, #2 University of Northwestern Ohio, and # 3 Siena Heights.  Golf will host a tournement in the spring to determine the WHAC respresentative to the NAIA National Championship.  The WHAC announced the All-Conference teams on Saturday as well.  Junior Sam Vos (junior from Grand Haven, Mich.) and Tyler Coyne (sophomore from Auburn Hills, Mich.) were both named Honorable Mention with five round totals of 384 and 385 respectively.  Chris Wisen was name to the Champions of Character team.  Click here to see the full teams.

 
10/08/2013 - Men's Golf

The Cornerstone men's golf team took to the course one last time for the fall season at the Metamora Golf & Country Club Monday.  The fourth and final WHAC Jamboree was held in Metamora, Mich., hosted by Marygrove College. 

During Monday's event, the weather was cold with high winds and persistent light rain which led to tough playing conditions for the competitors.  The Golden Eagles finished tied for sixth with Indiana Tech after a 322 team score.  Cornerstone was nearly six strokes away from Aquinas College who finished with a 316 team score.  Siena Heights took the first place position shooting an overall 300 team score while Davenport (308) and UNOH (309) were in a tough race for second place on Monday.

After the final WHAC Jamboree of the 2013 fall season, Davenport claimed their third WHAC regular season men's golf title.  Northwestern Ohio followed behind finishing in second while Siena Heights took fourth and Cornerstone finished in fifth.  Davenport's win allows them to host the 54-hole spring tournament at Stonewater Country Club to determine the WHAC's automatic team qualifier for the NAIA National Championships in May.

Leading the Way

Zach Mick shot a 77 for the day placing him tied for eleventh with Indiana Tech's Tyler Willette.  Siena Heights' Nicholas Campbell totaled an individual score of 72 on Monday placing him even par and giving him the overall leader position in the last WHAC Jamboree.

Golden Eagles' Brad Clevenger followed Mick after finishing the day plus nine (81).  Clevenger's score placing him tied for 24thTyler Coyne and Sam Vos each shot an 82 respectively placing them tied for 28th.   Rounding the afternoon was Casey VandenBerg (84) and Chris Wisen (86).     

Looking Ahead

The Golden Eagles finished the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Regular Season sitting in fifth place.  The WHAC men's golf championship will occur in the spring at Stonewater Country Club hosted by Davenport.  The date and time for the event will be announced.  Meanwhile, Cornerstone will practice and have a few months off before heading back to the course.

09/25/2013 - Men's Golf

After finishing second in round one of the WHAC Jamboree #3 on Tuesday, men's golf looked to finish strong in round two of the event on Wednesday at the Coyote Creek Golf Course.  The Golden Eagles' finished round two with a 309 team score, combined with Tuesday's 296 placed Cornerstone third overall in WHAC #3 with a 605 total.  Davenport claimed the number one spot after two rounds shooting a team 585 combined score.  Madonna followed behind finishing with a 604 score.

Leading the Way

Brad Clevenger led all Cornerstone golfers today with a 75 and a 162 combined score.  Sam Vos led all Golden Eagles after two rounds (150) after shooting 77 placing him tied for seventh.  Davenport Warren Grover claimed the leader position after two rounds with a combined 143 score.

Golden Eagles Tyler Coyne finished the event tied for 15th after scoring a 78 earlier today with a 152 grand total.  Casey Vandenberg finished the two rounds with a 153 total placing him in eighteenth alongside two Indiana Tech golfers.  Zach Mick helped Cornerstone shooting plus 11 for the two rounds finishing tied for 25th (155).  

Looking Ahead

The team takes a break from the course until October 7 for the fourth and final WHAC Jamboree of the fall.  The Jamboree will be hosted by Marygrove at Metamora Golf Course scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
