[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Drops Double Header

The Cornerstone Women's tennis team fell to 0-3 today after losing both legs of a double header against Huntington University and St. Francis University. CU freshman Ashley Greene, however, won her singles match against both opponents and now has the first winning streak of the season. Also winning today was sophomore Janie Silvers against Huntington.

Up next is Davenport University on Friday September 7.

[Women's Tennis] Cornerstone Women's Tennis Fall to Bethel College in Season Opener

The Cornerstone Women's Tennis team opened their season on Thursday August 30 at Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN. Although the Golden Eagles fell 0-9, there were many very good matches, and the group has shown considerable improvement over last year's team. Making their college tennis debuts were freshmen Heidi Boesl, who lost a nail-biter at #1 singles, and Ashley Greene, who partnered with Allison Rusticus at #3 Doubles.

Up next is a double header against Huntington University and the University of St. Francis on Friday August 31.

[Women's Tennis] Heidi Boesl signs to play tennis

Cornerstone University's Women's Tennis coach Dan Erickson received his second commitment for 2012 with the signing Heidi Boesl from Coos Bay, Oregon. Boesl signed her letter of intent on April 23, 2012. Heidi played both #1 Singles and Doubles in high school, which includes a win over the #1 seed in the state tournament last year. Heidi was the team captain all 4 years of high school.

Coach Erickson is excited about Boesl coming to CU in the fall of 2012. "We connected with Heidi really late in the recruiting process, but I couldn't be happier that we did. She is a great fit for our school, loves the Lord, and will really help improve our team."

Boesl is the daughter of Aron & Rose Boesl. She is planning on majoring in Digital Media Arts at Cornerstone.

[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Team Closes Out Season

The women's tennis team finished their season with a 5-0 loss to Aquinas College in the four team WHAC tournament. The #1, #2, #3 doubles lost 8-1, 8-0, 8-0 to take an early 3-0 lead. The Saints won in straight sets in both #1 singles and #2 singles to complete the match.

Carrie Carr was named to the Academic All-WHAC team. The junior from Kentwood, Mich. carries well over a 3.25 qualifying mark to be named to the team.

[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Battles Against Lady Pilots

The women's tennis team lost 8-1 against the Lady Pilots of Bethel College. Carrie Car defeated Taryn Johnson in #4 singles 7-5, 6-3. Janie Silvers lost in straights sets but won 3 games in the first set against Bethany Blodgett (6-3, 6-1). No. 1 doubles Amy Fouty and Hannah Guest won three games as well but Neuenschwander/Atkins won 8-3. Cornerstone will travel to Spring Arbor for their final dual match of the season on April 16th.

[Women's Tennis] Golden Eagles Drop 9-0 Decision to Aquinas

Experience proved to be a factor in the Saints 9-0 win over the Golden Eagles. The Saints posted shut-outs in #1 and #6 singles and #1 doubles. Carrie Carr took 4 games against Emily Decker losing 6-1, 6-3 in #4 singles. Allison Rusticus won two games vs. Gina Kukulski in #5 singles (6-2, 6-0). This is the first season ever for Cornerstone women's tennis. The team is 1-19 overall and 1-3 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will host Bethel College on Saturday, April 14^th at 1pm.

[Women's Tennis] #25 Panthers too much for Golden Eagles

The Davenport Panthers improved to 2-0 in the WHAC and 16-5 overall with a 9-0 win over the Golden Eagles. Davenport did not drop a game in #1, #3 and #5 singles as well as #1 doubles. Carrie Carr pushed Kristi Kuzdal to the limit in #4 singles but came up short 6-4, 7-5. Davenport is ranked #25 in the latest NAIA ratings. Cornerstone is 1-2 in the WHAC and 1-18 overall. The Golden Eagles will host Aquinas College at Riverview Athletic Club on Tuesday, April 10^th at 3pm.

The women's tennis team made history today winning their first team match of the season over Indiana Tech 5-4. The Golden Eagles won 4th, 5th and 6th singles and 2nd and 3rd doubles. Carrie Carr defeated Marison Granados 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in #4 singles, Allison Rusticus defeated Amanda Northup 6-3, 6-2 in #5 singles and Kelly Gampel won #6 singles by forfeit. Silvers and Rusticus took #2 doubles 8-4 and Carr/Gampel won #3 doubles by forfeit.

#24 Marian defeated the Golden Eagles 9-0 in the first match for CU in the spring season in Kissimmee Florida.
Carrie Carr and Kelly Gampel lost a tie-breaker in #3 doubles 7-5.

The Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan improved to 10-0 with a 9-0 win over the Golden Eagles. Catie Sattler won 4 games in the first set in #6 singles but lost 6-4, 6-1 to Kim Reisdorf.

[Women's Tennis] Judson Takes Down Golden Eagles

Playing in their second opponent in just as many days the Judson Eagles were able to ground CU and win 9-0. Janie Silver playing #2 singles pushed her opponent to an extra game after losing the first set 1-6 then winning the second 6-4 but lost the tie-breaker 10-5. Carrie Carr playing #4 singles pushed her opponent to a tie-breaker but could not get the win losing 5-7, 6-2, 5-10. The Golden Eagles will play in the ITA Regionals Sept. 15-16.
