Nate Van Holten begins his ninth year as an assistant coach for men's middle distance, distance and race walk events. In that time his athletes have broken every school record in cross country and distance events in track and set three conference records.
In 2009 Van Holten guided the men's cross country team to their first WHAC title and third NAIA National Championship appearance since 2006. The 2010 track & field season was also productive with Zach Ripley winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and Kris Shear and Janelle Brown qualifying for the USA Track & Field National Championships in the race walk.
Van Holten also guided Cornerstone's top distance runner, Derek Scott, to nine All-America honors, the 2007 NAIA National Championship in the 1500 meters and a spot on the 2004 United States Jr. National team. He has also had four of his athletes qualify and compete at the USATF Jr. National Championships. Altogether, Van Holten has coached 35 All-Americans, 2 to National titles, and 4 to National Runner-up finishes.
During his collegiate career, Van Holten was an NAIA All-American 4x400 meter runner, competing in four national championship events and earning three WHAC titles in relay events. Van Holten received a master's degree in social work from Grand Valley State University in 2004 and completed his B.S. in youth psychology from Cornerstone in 2002. He also holds three USATF Level II coaching certifications as well as instructor training certification. Nate, his wife, Jane, and their son live in Grand Rapids.
