LIMA, Ohio – For the second straight year and 17th time in the 23 year history of the conference, the Cornerstone men's basketball team will play for a WHAC Tournament championship. The No. 4 ranked Golden Eagles posted a 95-85 victory over No. 16 Northwestern Ohio on Saturday and they advance to play at No. 7 Davenport on Tuesday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. Cornerstone and Davenport have identical 27-5 records and split the season series.
CLEREMONT, Fla. – The softball team opened the season with a tough 7-6 loss to Northwood University (Fla.) in extra innings. CU battled back from a 5-2 deficit to force extra innings but lost in the bottom of the eighth to the Seahawks. The second game of the double header was rained out. Cornerstone will face Grace College (Ind.) at 3:00 p.m. and Judson University (Ill.) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
EMERSON, Ga. – Sophomore Ben Sheckler (SO/Sparta, Mich.) came up big for the Golden Eagles as he helped the team post a split and salvage one of the three game against St. Catharine (Ky.) with a 1-hit shutout in the finale. Cornerstone dropped the opener 2-0 but rebounded with a 3-0 win in the nightcap to see their record move to 2-5 on the season. CU will resume play Monday with a 3 p.m. game at Warner (Fla.) and a 7:30 p.m. neutral site game vs. Judson (Ill.)
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 2014-15 campaign has come to a close for the Cornerstone women's basketball team as they fell to undefeated and No. 2 ranked Davenport 76-57 n Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles complete the season with an overall record of 22-10 and saw the final action for seniors Jill Hendrickson (JR/Ada, Mich.) and Ashley Niedermayer (SR/Lincolnshire, Ill).
EMERSON, Ga. – After having to wait until almost 10 p.m. EST to start play on their spring break trip to the south, the Cornerstone baseball team could not overcome a 10-k performance from their opposing pitcher of St. Catharine (Ky.) as they fell 1-0. The loss drops CU to 1-4 on the young season as they will play a double-header against the Patriots on Saturday. First pitch in game one is set for 11 a.m.
