GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone got a great performance from senior Luke Heller (SR/Whitewater, Wisc.) in the opener as the Golden Eagles posted a split against Concordia on Friday evening. CU won game one 6-2 before falling 11-3 in the nightcap. The split leaves Cornerstone at 17-26 overall and 8-16 in the WHAC. Both teams will return to DeWitt Field on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone returned to action today to face rival Aquinas and the Golden Eagles won game one on a walk-off homerun by Jenna Weightman. Aquinas won the second game 7-0 and limited Cornerstone to just four hits in the game. The split leaves Cornerstone at 15-11 overall and 3-7 in league play as they travel to Siena Heights on Saturday for a DH.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The final day of the 2015 WHAC Championships saw higher scores across the board and the Golden Eagles fell one spot from the opening 36-holes to place seventh out of 11 teams. Tyler Coyne (JR/Auburn Hills, Mich.), the overnight leader for the event, concluded the 54-hole tourney with a tie for fourth. Davenport took the team title while Jorge Benitez repeated as the WHAC individual champion.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Cornerstone's Tyler Coyne (JR/Auburn Hills, Mich.) leads the individual field at the 2015 WHAC Championships as the junior fired a 1-under par 143 (74-69) at Coyote Creek Golf Club. The Golden Eagles sit in sixth place as a team as they posted rounds of 318 and 301. Day two will start with an 8:30 shotgun with Davenport leading the way by 23 shots.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The tough stretch for the Cornerstone men's tennis team continued on Wednesday night as they fell 6-3 to rival Aquinas in a match played at Davenport's Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 1-3 in conference play and 16-5 overall. CU will head to Grace College (Ind.) and Northwestern Ohio over the weekend.
