Coach Ryan Campbell enters his second season as head coach and fifth season coaching at Cornerstone. Last season, Campbell's team finished with a record of 24-17 (14th consecutive winning season). Campbell was also named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) "Champions of Character" coach and organized the Cornerstone volleyball attendance record. Also in 2009, Campbell received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) "Thirty Under 30 Award," a national honor given to thirty up-and-coming volleyball coaches.
In the off season, Campbell coaches club volleyball in Grand Rapids. He also has been hired as a camp coach for Ohio State University, the University of Hawaii, Penn State University, the University of Michigan, Purdue University, the University of Notre Dame, and Bowling Green State University.
In addition, Campbell spent time coaching the junior varsity volleyball team at Forest Hills Central High School. In Campbell's last two seasons, his teams recorded a combined record of 74-7.
Campbell is a Cornerstone alumnus. He majored in physical education with a minor in both health education and coaching. Campbell is originally from Illinois where he played high school and club volleyball. He now resides in East Grand Rapids, Mich.
Dave Vander Meer
Assistant Coach - 2nd Season
David Vander Meer enters his first
season as assistant coach for Cornerstone University volleyball. David is the
president and coach of Carpe Diem Volleyball Club. He has been coaching volleyball
for over 17 years. In 2007, he led the Tri-Unity Christian varsity team to the Michigan
High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state finals. David has his CAP
(Coaching Accreditation Program) Level 1 and is a USAV certified beach coach.
On top of coaching, David is a prominent volleyball official. He currently
officiates the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) professional beach
tour along with the Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) and Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). David is also a national official
with USA Volleyball and the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials.
David is married to Michelle and has five children David Ryan (18), Megan (16),
Sydney (16), Jennifer (14), and Nathanael (14). Dave and his family reside in
Grand Rapids and are members of La Grave Ave. Christian Reformed Church.
Assistant Coach - 2nd Season
Kayla Wilson enters her first season as an assistant coach at Cornerstone University. She recently graduated from Cornerstone University and played on the volleyball and was a member of the track team for four years. She majored in exercise science and is now entering into the doctoral program of physical therapy at Grand Valley State University. Kayla has coached for the past three years at the Michigan Volleyball Academy during the off season.
Kayla attended Caledonia High school where she was a three sport athlete and was awarded the female athlete of the year award. Kayla received the same award at Cornerstone this last year as the senior female athlete of the year. Kayla was also an All-American in the pentathlon and an academic All-American. She enjoys being active, encouraging, traveling, and being outside in the sunshine. Kayla attends Whitneyville Bible Church and also attends "The Gathering" which is a college and career group in Grand Rapids.
Student Assistant - 3rd Season
Hannah Duits is entering her second season working with the Cornerstone volleyball team. Her main duties will be helping during practices, video and keeping stats. She is a 2009 graduate of Lakewood High School. During her time at Lakewood, Hannah was involved in several sports including volleyball, basketball, golf, and track where she was a team captain. She was also Vice President of student government all four years and President of varsity club as well as a member of science club and the Business Professionals of America.
Duits is currently majoring in Media and Sports Marketing. One of Hannah's passions is photography and she plans to eventually get a job as a sports photographer and incorporate sports advertising. Recently, one of her volleyball photos was a finalist in a photography contest earning publication in the book entitled Sharing The Spotlight: The International Library Of Photography. Along with photography, Hannah also loves spending time working at Grace Adventures, playing/watching sports, being outdoors, camping, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and being a part of about any competition. She enjoyed attending Cornerstone her freshmen year because of the friends she has made, campus activities, classes, professors, and the overall Christian atmosphere of the campus. Her favorite bible verse is Ephesians 5:15-17.
