David Mitroff is in his third year at the helm of the Cornerstone University Baseball program. In his two seasons, Mitroff has posted a 31-54 overall record while starting the program from the ground up in 2012. 

In his two seasons, Mitroff has coached three different players who have received All-WHAC Honorable Mention honors.

Mitroff has been a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association for 14 years and before coming to Cornerstone, Mitroff was a head coach for the Arlington Cardinals collegiate summer league team. He has also coached at the high school level and extensively within travel baseball organizations. He also served as the head coach for Illinois Select Baseball. He pioneered events such as the Baseball Leadership Summit and P.I.T.C.H. (players investing toward community help) which mentors coaches and trained student athletes.

Before completing his degree from Bethel University in 1983 in business administration he played and was Bethel’s starting catcher for three years from 1979 to 1982.

He is married to Linda Lee Mitroff of Palatine IL and has three adult children Melanie Good, Corinne VanArsdale, and David N Mitroff.

Ron Engels, a native of Wyoming, Mich., played football, basketball and baseball for Grand Rapids Community College. He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1963 and earned masters degree from Central Michigan in 1969.

As coach at Wyoming Park High School, where he taught history and family living, the team won the State Championship, three runner up State Championships, 15 conference titles, 11 district titles and seven regional titles. He retired from teaching in 1994 and has since been helping coach baseball at Hudsonville High School.

He has served as president of the MHSBCA for two years, selected to the MHSBCA Hall of Fame and received the Coach of the Year for 1980, 1984, 1992 and 2001.
Engles and his wife, Barbara, have five children.

Chuck is in his third year as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for Cornerstone University Baseball. Prior to working at Cornerstone, Chuck was an assistant coach at Prairie Ridge High School (Crystal Lake, Ill.) where he coached pitchers, catchers, and hitters over the course of 13 years.  At Prairie Ridge working under Glen Pecoraro, Chuck was a part of a coaching staff that won eight Regional Championships, five Conference Championships, and finished as the state runner up in the Illinois Summer State Championship in 2010.

For 15 years, Chuck has given private baseball lessons in pitching, catching, and hitting and has run camps and coaching clinics in Illinois and Michigan.  Chuck has had the pleasure of coaching five pitchers who have pitched in the following Major League organizations: Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, and Chicago Cubs.

Chuck received a B.A. in Applied Behavioral Science from National-Louis University in 2008 and will begin work on a M.A in Management at Cornerstone this fall. An avid reader and student of leadership, Chuck has attended the Global Leadership Summit the last five years and the American Baseball Coaches Association convention and clinic 12 times.

Chuck is married to the beautiful Kim (Cook) and together they have three children. They reside in Grand Rapids and attend Madison Square Church.

Assistant Coach - 3rd Season


Pete is the National Director for Global Youth Baseball Federation, a missions organization which uses baseball as a platform to build relationships and share the gospel worldwide. A role he has served in since January 2012.

He is in his third season here at Cornerstone after the partnership formed between Global Baseball and the University prior to the inaugural season. Roles at Cornerstone include serving as the head Junior Varsity Coach and assistant Varsity coach working primarily with outfielders. Previous coaching experience includes working as an assistant baseball coach at Beloit Memorial High School, Beloit Wisconsin from 2006-2007. 

Prior to joining Global Baseball Pete was involved in long term missions in various locations, including Switzerland, rural East Asia, Ireland, and Amsterdam’s Red Light District. Pete is charged with organizing the Cornerstone baseball team mission project to Cuba in December 2013.

Pete played baseball at Wisconsin Lutheran College for 4 years 2001-2005, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Social Science from Wisconsin Lutheran College and a Masters in Sport Management from Indiana State in 2009.
