"I have had the privilege of being a player under some of the best coaches in women's basketball during the past few years," said Mattera. "I am thrilled to be bringing my professional experience and knowledge to Cornerstone and look forward to this challenge."
Mattera inherits three returning starters, nine letter winners and five new recruits from last year's Cornerstone team that finished 18-13 overall and 11-7 in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference. Fles retired as the CU's all-time winning coach and never had a losing season during her tenure.
"Cornerstone offers a fabulous opportunity for me with the incredible program that has been built by Coach Fles," added Mattera. "Best of all, it gives me the opportunity to both mentor and train young student-athletes. I am so excited to use the experiences that God has blessed me with in my career to benefit others.

Kara Overbeek Haskill, a native from Holland, Michigan, begins her first season as an assistant coach at Cornerstone University. Haskill graduated from Holland Christian where she was a four-year varsity basketball player. She is also no stranger to the Cornerstone hard-court as she was a four-year player under head coach Carla Fles (2005-2009) and earned her degree in Business Management and a minor in Sport Management. Haskill scored over 1,000 points and averaged 9.8 PPG, 3.8RPG, 1.1 SPG, and 2.3 APG during her career. She also maintained the starting guard position for three years while earning 2nd Team All-Conference and Golden Eagle team MVP her senior year.
Prior to the Cornerstone position, Haskill has had past coaching experience with Calvin College. She was the head coach of the JV team and assistant coach of the varsity program during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons at Calvin. During her two years, her JV team went 22-18 and the varsity squad posted a 53-7 overall record. Haskill married Cornerstone alum, Evan Haskill, in 2009 and has a daughter who was born on February 10, 2012. Kara and Evan reside in Holland.
In response to the new coaching opportunity, Haskill noted, "I am excited to be a part of the CU program again and to get the chance to work with coach Mattera. This is a very fun and talented group of girls and I am thrilled to be a part of the coaching staff that will help guide them to their full potential, both as a team and as individuals."
