The Golden Eagles kept the Cardinals well below their season average of 38% from the 3-point line as they made only 2 of 20 from long range.
The Golden Eagles led for the first 10 minutes of the game although their biggest lead was just 6 points (12-6). The Cardinals took their first lead (17-16) with 9:11 on the clock. There were a couple of lead changes through the remainder of the half but neither team had more than a 3 point lead. Concordia hit a shot at the buzzer to take a 26-25 halftime lead. The second half was more of the same as the teams battled back and forth throughout the half with neither team taking more than a 4 point lead (53-49 Concordia) with 3:05 left in the game. Derek Kingshott tied the game at 53-53 with 1:36 left in the half but neither team would score from there in and the game went into overtime. Cornerstone never trailed in OT. Wes Hudson put the Golden Eagles up 55-53 with 3:05 left in the half. Dan Possehl hit a huge 3-pointer with 1:00 on the clock to give Cornerstone a 61-55 advantage and the Cardinals would not ever recover as they went on to lose 66-59. Cornerstone is now in second place alone after Aquinas lost to Davenport.
The Golden Eagles play at cross-town rival Davenport on Saturday as part of a double header with the women's team. The women's team will tip off at 1:00 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 3:00 p.m.. The game will be broadcast on WBBL 107.3 FM.
