The Golden Eagles held the Racers without a field goal in the last 4:35 of the game. CU shot 54% (17-31) from the field in the 2nd half and held UNOH to 31% (11-35). The Golden Eagles were 5-23 from the 3 point line while the Racers shot 2-14 from the 3-point line.
The Racers started the game on an 11-0 run before Sam Flietstra scored CU's first field goal at the 16:18 mark. UNOH led by as many as 13 in the first half. The Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 run to cut the Racer lead to 4 with 9:47 remaining in the first half but the Racers countered with their own 7-0 run and closed out the half leading 42-30. Amanda Francis led the Racers with 17 first half points.
Cornerstone opened the second half with three consecutive steals by sophomore Janae Trombley but the Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and UNOH continued to add to their lead pushing it to 16 points at the 14:07 mark. Cornerstone went on a 12-0 run over the next 5 minutes and cut the lead to 58-54. The Racers went on a 7-1 run to take a 10 point lead (65-55) with 7:18 remaining. Melissa Veltkamp scored 5 of her 24 points in the next 1:30 to cut the lead to 65-60. Amanda Francis scored one free-throw, her only point in the second half, before Sam Flietstra scored a field goal to cut the Racer lead to 4 (66-62) with 4:50 remaining. Rebecca Puckett scored UNOH's final points of the game with 4:35 remaining to give the Racers a 68-62 lead. Veltkamp scored to cut the lead to 4 and Janae Trombley followed with a 3 pointer to cut the lead to one with 2:55 remaining. With 1:35 to go Sam Flietstra scored 2 of her 18 points to give CU their first lead of the game. Kate Cousins pushed the lead to 3 scoring her only field goal of the game on a pull up jump shot with 1:07 remaining to give CU a 71-68 lead. UNOH would not get a shot off in the final minute and the Golden Eagles improved to 6-4 in the WHAC and 13-9 overall. The Racers fall to 5-5 in the WHAC and 10-11 overall.
Cornerstone will travel to Madonna on January, 25th at 7:30 p.m.
