WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (1/7) The Cornerstone Women's Track & Field team returned from Christmas break ready to perform at the Purdue Invitational, setting five personal bests and a freshman record.
Juniors Audry Yonge and Julia Contreras set the tone in the middle distance events. Yonge placed third in the mile with a new best time of 5:27.80 while Contreras took fourth in the 600 meters in personal best, 1:41.42. Freshman, Julie Oosterhouse made her collegiate debut in the 800 meters taking second in 2:25.08.
Indiana native, Larissa Hamption raced well in her home state, finishing fourth in the 400 meters in a new best time of 1:00.71 and second in the 200 meters in 27.25.
In field event action, Lindsay Lipa won the long jump in a PR 17' 2.75" ahead of fellow freshman, Brittany Green who was second with a leap of 16' 10.5". Lipa led a 1-2 CU finish in the high jump, clearing 4' 11.75" with Rebecca Wielfaert one height back at 4' 9.75."
Haley Russell improved her best in the 20 pound weight throw to 43' 11.25" placing 4th. She also took fourth in the shot put with a 39' 3.25" effort.
Green, Lipa, Hamption and Oosterhouse combined to establish a freshman record in the 4 x 400 meter relay, placing third in 4:15.00
