KEY TEAM STATS
Cornerstone shot 52.9% (27-51) while Aquinas made only 44.4% (28-63) of their shots from the field. A key stat down the stretch was foul shots. Aquinas only made 7-16 (43.8%) from the line which included some crucial misses as the game wound down.
The Golden Eagles took an early lead on Aquinas tonight and they kept it that way for most of the half. Cornerstones built a 30-21 lead with 5:48 left in the first half. Aquinas responded with a 12-2 run over the next 4:31 to take a 33-32 lead with 1:27 left in the half. Justin Yoder put the Golden Eagles up 37-35 by sinking two free throws at the end of the half. Aquinas came out in the second half and took the lead early. They held on to the lead for a while and extended their lead to as much as 7 points (62-55) with 6:35 left in the game. Justin Yoder would cut the lead to 62-61 with 4:41 on the clock. Those two points put gives Yoder 1001 points in his career. The Golden Eagles tied the game a 62-62 on a foul shot by Wes Hudson and then took the lead on the second made foul shot. Aquinas would tie it again at 67-67 but missed some crucial foul shots down the stretch. Wes Hudson put the Golden Eagles up 70-67 on a 3-pointer and then he made four free throws down the stretch as the Golden Eagles held on to defeat Aquinas 74-71. Cornerstone improves to 2-1 in the WHAC with the win.
The Golden Eagles will host Lourdes College at 3:00 p.m. as part of a double header with the women's team.
