Mich.) The Cornerstone University Women's Track & Field team began the
indoor season at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Classic. The talented
freshmen class proved they are ready for collegiate competition with some
excellent first-meet results.
In her first
meet as a Golden Eagle, Brittany Green broke the freshman record, taking second
in the long jump. Green's mark of 17'4.25" bettered the old record of 16' 8.75"
by Abby Benthem set in 2003.
Russell took down both the freshman and school records in the shot put. On her
fifth attempt, Russell's throw measured 39' 7.25" taking out Erin Swinger's
freshman mark of 37' 10" set last season and Vicki Wittingen's school record of
39' 2.75" from 2005. On her next attempt, Haley broke her own records finishing
seventh in the field at 39' 8.5". Russell also took fifth in the 20 pound
weight throw with a toss of 41' 2".
Lindsay Lipa placed fourth in the 200 meters running 27.24.
also turned in notable performances. Sophomore, Liz Baller took fourth in the
800 meters in a personal best 2:26.28, just ahead of junior, Julia Contreras'
led a junior, sophomore, freshman 4-5-6 CU finish in the 3000 meters running
10:59.30 followed by Jill Louisiganu (11:01.93) and CallyAnne Wyma (11:13.75).
The 4 x 400
meter relay team of Baller, Lipa, Contreras and senior, Lauren Pierce placed
third behind Lake Superior State and host, SVSU in 4:13.18.
