The Golden Eagles made 11 shots from the 3-point line and shot 48.4% (30-62) from the field while Calvin shot 39.1% (25-64) from the field. Cornerstone out rebounded Calvin 45-38 in the game.
The Golden Eagles went down early as Calvin took a 8-2 lead in the opening minutes of play. Cornerstone would respond with a 13-0 run over the next the next four minutes. The teams would remain close for the remainder of the half. Calvin did tie the score at 41-41 with 1:06 on the clock but Cornerstone would score the last 5 points of the half to take a 46-41 lead into the locker room. Cornerstone would explode out of the gate to start the second half with a 17-2 run to open up a 20 point lead and the Knights would never get back into the game. The Golden Eagles would push the lead to 23 (84-61) with 6:02 left in the game. Calvin cut the lead down to 15 on a couple of occasions but would finish down 17 (94-77) at the end of the contest.
The Golden Eagles will return to action tomorrow when they take on Hope College at 8:00 p.m. Hope defeated Aquinas 67-65 in the first game of the GR Hall of Fame Tournament.
