Men's Soccer - Wed, Nov. 9, 2011
Soccer can be an unfair game and the men's soccer team found that out today as they lost 1-0 to Madonna in the WHAC Semifinals. The Golden Eagles pounded on the Madonna goal in the first half of play today but GK Adrian Motta came up huge on a couple of saves to keep the Crusaders in the game. Cornerstone outshot Madonna 9-1 in the first half. The wind proved to be somewhat of a factor in both halves. Cornerstone was attacking with the wind in the first half and Madonna could never really get out of their own half. The wind made it easier for the Crusaders to get the ball out in the second half and they made the most of their opportunities. Joe Carver scored the only goal of the match in the 66th minute of play by blasting a shot in the upper left corner of the goal beating Kyle Breckan
to his right. Cornerstone had a couple of chances after that including a PK by Matt Osorio
but Motta made another save to keep the Golden Eagles off the board. Cornerstone outshot Madonna 6-4 in the second half but they still couldn't find the back of the net. It was a disappointing end to a great season for the men. Madonna will move on to the WHAC final against Aquinas on Saturday.
