The Golden Eagles 17 game win streak came to an end at the Big Guns Tournament in Joliet Ill. In the first match of the tournament CU took on #23 Viterbo and the Golden Eagles came away with their 21st win of the season and improved their win streak to 17. It didn't come easy as CU had to come from behind to win in 5 (25-17, 21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8). Cornerstone is now 4-0 in 5 game matches. Kate Zwier led the team with 17 kills, Kim Weaver added 4 aces and 4 players had 1 block apiece, Ali Prus was the dig leader with 26.
In the final match of the evening CU faced Trinity Christian who also is receiving votes in the recent NAIA poll. This is the second times these two teams have met with CU taking the first in 5 games. This time is was the Trolls who evened the score winning (25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19). Jodi Grandholm led the team with 14 kills on 47 attempts for a hitting percentage of .106. Kim Weaver had 7 kills and 35 assists and 3 aces. Abby Miedema led the team with 17 digs. CU hit .298 for the match while Trinity Christian was .359. Trinity dominated at the nets recording 11 blocks to CU's 3. Cornerstone will have to rebound quickly as they take on St. Ambrose and St. Francis Ill on Saturday, Oct. 15.
