Men's Cross Country - Fri, Oct. 7, 2011

(Hillsdale, Mich.) Just before the start of the Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships, Hillsdale College held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Hayden Park. The 190 donated acres of rolling fields now featured 5, 6 and 8 kilometer cross country courses. While it was a beautiful day for the ceremony, the cloudless sky and nearly 80 degree temperatures made for slower times.

Jared Courtright led the Golden Eagles for the second time this season. After enduring the 700 meter uphill start, Jared moved up steadily throughout the race, the junior from Wyoming picked off six places in the final mile to finish eleventh in 26:47.

Louis Falland claimed 35th in 27:24 ahead of Travis Mabe (55th / 27:57) and Thomas Bambach (61st / 28:11). Cody Risch ran his first full race of the season after recovering from injury taking 72nd in 28:31.

The meet which is open to any college in Michigan included conference rivals, Siena Heights and Davenport and University of Michigan-Dearborn. The hosts from Hillsdale took the team title with 43 points, one better than Grand Valley State. Cornerstone was eighth with 211, two spots behind Siena and ahead of Davenport (11th) and Dearborn (18th) in the field of twenty teams.
