(Philadelphia, Pa.) Cornerstone Race Walkers, Janelle Brown and Katie Malinowski accepted the invitation to participate in the 2010 Penn Relays, the oldest and one of the largest relay meets in the world.

Against great competition, Brown set out to hit the qualifying standard of 26:00 for the USA Track & Field Championships in June. Needing to average 2:04 per lap, Janelle kept her splits under 2:02 for seven laps. After walking 2:04 on the eighth and tenth circuits, Brown went 2:00 on the twelfth lap and :55 for the final 200 meters to finish seventh in 25:15.76. "I knew I had it with a lap to go. I had one mark on the board so I was careful to hold form the rest of the way." Brown said.

In addition to becoming the first CU T&F athlete to qualify for the USATF championships, Janelle lowered her school record by 1:44.

Malinowski was on pace for a personal best time for ten laps, then finished in 27:27.72 placing eleventh.
