The Golden Eagles defeated Lawrence Tech (3-0) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (3-0) in the first day of the UM-Dearborn Early Bird Invitational on Friday, Aug. 26. Larrissa Deshetsky and Jodi Grandholm had 14 and 11 digs respectively against Lawrence Tech. Grandholm and Abby Meidema were the kill leaders against Mount Vernon Naz. with 14 and 12 kills respectively.
The Golden Eagles were challenged on day two defeating a pesky Trinity Christian 3-2. Cornerstone won the first two games 25-17, 25-15 before the Trolls evened things up 19-25, 21-25. CU won the final game 15-10. They were led Grandholm and Miedema's 14 kills. Setter Kim Weaver
dished out 36 assists. Immediately after the first match Cornestone had to switch gears and take on the Lancers of Grace College Ind. The Lancers proved too strong defeating CU 21-25, 23-25, 20-25. CU was held to a hitting percentage of .123. Cornerstone is now 4-1 overall and will play in the Rochester Tri on Aug. 31st.
