(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Three-time NAIA All-American thrower,
Joel Leong continued training after graduation with the goal of moving to the
next level. Friday at the Aquinas College Ernie Mousseau Classic, he took a big
step in that direction.
Competing for only the second time this season, Leong had a great series in the hammer throw.
After a foot foul and a safety throw in the preliminary round, Joel sent the 16
pound ball over the 200' mark. "Everything felt good and I wasn't pushing that
hard," Leong said. On his final attempt, Joel got more speed from his three
spins through the circle before launching the hammer 214' 9". That mark bettered the USATF "B" qualifying
standard of 213' 3" putting Leong on the board for the U.S. Championships in
Leong took first by over 26 feet. CU's Bryant Langdon placed
tenth with a mark of 137' 1".
