(Ypslanti, Mich.) The weekend began with the same poor
weather conditions that have plagued most of the outdoor track season. Friday
at the Eastern Michigan University Twilight meet was cold with rain and drizzle,
but Saturday brightened and temperatures rose to seasonal levels. The Golden
Eagles responded with season bests and two national qualifying marks.
Starting on Friday, John Klumpp took sixth in the 400 meter
hurdles, bettering the NAIA provisional standard with his time of 54.49. Adam
Duerksen was eighth in a personal best 54.95.
Under the lights, Isaac Cox improved his 1500 meter best to
4:02.87 for 13th and Alex Green concluded the evening taking 11th
in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:15.52.
Saturday brought much better conditions yielding excellent
Isaac Cox took third in the 800 meters in a season best
1:53.57, improving his NAIA provisional mark. In the 400 meters Ryan Versen
placed sixth in 49.74. Adam Duerksen improved his best mark in the javelin with
a throw of 135' 2" good for ninth place.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Deurksen, Versen Cox and
Zach Yeo put up the best time of the season.
It took a dive across the finish line from the Michigan Elite anchor leg
to defeat CU 3:18.38 to 3:18.41.
