Game 2 Cornerstone University (9) Aquinas College (3)
After a thrilling extra innings victory, Cornerstone was looking to sweep their conference rival, the Aquinas Saints, in the second game. But it wasn't going to be easy. Cornerstone spotted the Saints 3 runs and it could have been more had not Heidi Warmelink worked her way out of a bases loaded jam. The second inning began with the road team Saints loading the bases on a fielding error and two walks. Warmelink relieved starter Madison Bucilla and the Saints never had a scoring threat again. Warmelink got Lindsey Stewart to line out and Heidi Holmes to fly out and she didn't allow another base runner the final 5 innings. The Golden Eagles then went on a tear with the bats scoring in every inning but the first. They tied the game in the third when Jessica Kuhlman doubled home Lauren Pasciak who singled, and Warmelink then singled to left scoring Kuhlman. The Golden Eagles took the lead for good in the fourth when Pasciak and Kuhlman hit back-to-back doubles giving them a 4-3 lead. CU then piled it on when Warmelink hit a long two run home run to left in the 5th. For the game Kuhlman went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Warmelink did her share of damage with the bat too as she went 3 for 4 with 5 RBI's and 2 runs scored. The sweep improved the Golden Eagle's overall record to 19-11 and 10-6 within the conference as the team looks forward to Easter and a break until they resume play against cross town rival Davenport on Monday, April 25th.
