Game 1 - Concordia University (2) @ Cornerstone (7)
The Golden Eagles won the first game of a double header vs. the Concordia Cardinals 7-2.Heidi Warmelink singled up the middle for an RBI that scored Jessica Kuhlman in the first inning and gave CU a 1-0 lead.Concordia threatened in the top of the 3rd getting 2 hits, but Warmelink shut the door and stranded three runners.The Golden Eagles added two runs in the 4th led by a Lisa Peppelwalk.Kathy DeYoung advanced the runner and got on base on a fielding error.Lauren Pasciak followed DeYoung by getting on base on a second Cardinal error.Tahni Bruno scored two runs on a single to right field to give CU a 3-0 lead.Victoria Risenhoover added one run with an RBI in the 5th and Melanie Creager doubled to left field to add a run in the 6th followed by a two run homer by Heidi Warmelink to take a commanding 7-0 lead heading into the final inning.Concordia was able to avoid the shut-out scoring two runs in the 7th.Heidi Warmelink pitched a complete game striking out two batters.
Game 2 - Concordia University (2) @ Cornerstone (15) in 5 innings
On a cold and windy day the Golden Eagles stayed hot in the second game of a double header. Melanie Creager started things with a walk and then stole second. Heidi Warmelink then advanced to second after a walk and wild pitch which advanced Creager to third. Creager scored CU's first run after a second wild pitch by the Cardinals. The Golden Eagles scored 7 runs on four hits in the 2nd inning and then followed it up with 4 more runs in the third. Concordia added two runs in the top of the fourth but once again CU answered with 3 more runs and Warmelink stranded two Cardinal runners on base to finish the 5 inning game with a 15-2 CU win. Warmelink improved to 11-6 on the season. Creager led the team with 3 runs and Warmelink led the team with 3 hits, 3 RBI's and 2 runs. Cornerstone improves to 17-11 overall and 8-6 in the WHAC while the Cardinals fall to 3-22 and 2-12 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will host Madonna on Saturday at 1pm. Madonna has a one game lead over CU for 3rd place in the WHAC.
