(Conway, S.C.) The outdoor Track & Field season opened
under sunny skies with great competition at the Coastal Carolina University
Freshman, Isaac Cox made the most of his collegiate debut,
anchoring a relay and winning an individual event. On Friday, Zach Yeo, Jared
Courtright, Peter Kaijala and Cox combined to win the 4 x 800 meters. Cox
provided a 1:54 leg, passing Belmont in the final 50 meters. The Golden Eagles
clocked 7:53.53 to Belmont's 7:54.91.
The following afternoon, Cox earned his second win of the
meet in the open 800. After sitting in the pack through 400 meters in 49.9,
Issac unleashed a 56.8 final lap. His time of 1:56.71 was just enough to put
him ahead of Sanderson's Matthew Shaffer's 1:56.75. CU's Zach Bourdon placed
sixth in a huge personal best 1:58.77.
Alex Green led from the gun in the 3,000 meter steeplechase,
taking the win in 9:31.84.
In field event action, Adam Duerksen throw a new best of
138' 4" in the javelin while Bryant Langdon extended his PR in the hammer throw
to 125' 1".
The meet ended with Duerksen, Ryan Versen, Spencer Perry and
Yeo combining for fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:21.65.
