(Conway, S.C.) The outdoor Track & Field season opened under sunny skies with great competition at the Coastal Carolina University Invitational.
Freshman, Isaac Cox made the most of his collegiate debut, anchoring a relay and winning an individual event. On Friday, Zach Yeo, Jared Courtright, Peter Kaijala and Cox combined to win the 4 x 800 meters. Cox provided a 1:54 leg, passing Belmont in the final 50 meters. The Golden Eagles clocked 7:53.53 to Belmont's 7:54.91.
The following afternoon, Cox earned his second win of the meet in the open 800. After sitting in the pack through 400 meters in 49.9, Issac unleashed a 56.8 final lap. His time of 1:56.71 was just enough to put him ahead of Sanderson's Matthew Shaffer's 1:56.75. CU's Zach Bourdon placed sixth in a huge personal best 1:58.77.
Alex Green led from the gun in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, taking the win in 9:31.84.
