The Golden Eagles out rebounded the Tigers 49-30 (19 of which were
Offense Rebounds) in the game.
Cornerstone also had 22 2nd Chance points to Iowa Wesleyan's
4. Neither team shot very well from
behind the arc. CU made 6-23 (26.1%)
from long range while the Tigers only made 2-21 (9.5%) from the 3-point
line. Kelvin DeVries made 3 of those
3-pointers which gives him 300 made 3-pointers in his career.
GAME FLOW
The Golden Eagles got off to a bad start and found themselves down 9-2
but they made a 13-0 run to take a 15-9 lead. The game went back and forth for the next five
minutes with 3 ties and 4 lead changes.
The Golden Eagles took a 22-21 lead with 8:57 left in the half and would
push the lead to as high as 11 (40-29) but would have to settle for a 40-31 lead
going into the locker room. The Golden
Eagles came out hot in the 2nd half and gained some more separation
from the Tigers. Cornerstone made a 17-9
run to start the second half to push the lead to 57-40. Cornerstone wore the Tigers down throughout
the 2nd half. The largest
lead was 21 points which came on 3 separate times in the half (82-51 with 6:10,
74-53 with 5:29, and 82-61 with 3:44 on the clock). The Tigers would score the last 9 points of
the game to make the final score (82-70) seem like the game was closer than it really
was in the end. Caleb Simons led the
Golden Eagles by recording his 6th double double of the season
scoring 23 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
