Opening their season against the Panthers of Purdue- North
Central, the Golden Eagles declared a victory with a final score of 3-0. Heidi
Warmelink's debut was nothing short of spectacular as she threw a three
hitter with seven strikeouts. Warmelink also supplied the Golden Eagles with
three hits, including a double and one R.B.I. Madison Bucilla and Melanie
Creager also dispensed offensive support for Cornerstone. Bucilla went 2
for 3 with one R.B.I. and Creager went 1 for 3 and contributed an R.B.I.
as well. Dinah Gruppen and Jessica Kuhlman also had one hit a piece.
Rochester Institute of Technology started off strong in the
first inning against Cornerstone University by scoring an immediate
two runs. However, the chance of a victory quickly diminished as the Golden
Eagles scored a heavy six runs in the top of the second. Starter Dinah Gruppen
pitched through five innings and held Rochester to four runs. The Golden Eagles
tallied eleven hits and scored a total of nine runs. Tahni Bruno, Melanie
Creager, Lisa Peppell, and Madison Bucilla all led the Golden Eagles with 2
hits a piece. Dinah Gruppen, Rachel Gruppen and Jessica Kuhlman all
supplied the Eagles with a hit as well. One of two of Lisa Peppel's strong
connections allowed her to trot safely into home. Peppel and Kuhlman both
had two R.B.I's a piece. Heidi Warmelink came into relieve Gruppen in the top
of the sixth inning and successfully held R.I.T. to zero hits and struck out
four in two innings. The final score was 9-4.
