(Marion, Ind.) Five of the six Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference schools sent teams to Indian Wesleyan's Wildcat Invitational. The meet turned into a preview of the February 19 WHAC Championship with the Cornerstone men five personal bests and winning two events.
Jared Courtright got things going with his third place finish in the 5,000 meters. His time of 15:42.20 also made him the top WHAC runner in the field ahead of seven conference rivals.
The 400 meters was an even bigger conference battle. CU's Zach Yeo, Ryan Versen and 2010 alum, Jacob Erickson were joined on the homestretch by Davenport's Alex Blehm. The quartet raced four across over the final 20 meters. Yeo took the win in 50.47 with Blehm credited with the same time Erickson was .10 back and Versen .19 behind in a PR, 50.66. Two steps beyond the finish, Blehm lost his balance, knocking Yeo to the track. When they untangled, Zach left some blood on the track from several spike marks to his hand.
Versen led a trio of CU hurdles to best times in the 60 meter hurdle semi-finals clocking 8.95 ahead of John Klumpp (9.04) and Spencer Perry (9.33). Ryan and John advanced to the finals placing seventh and eighth.
Adam Duerksen joined Spencer, Versen and Yeo for the 4 x 400 meter relay where they won in 3:24.59 ahead of Siena Heights' 3:25.15.
