(Marion, Ind.) The first day of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships produced good results for the Cornestone Men's team.
Joel Leong started the day by taking fourth in the hammer throw. Assigned to the first of four flights, Leong's first attempt of the competition sailed 189' and held up as his best effort of the day resulting in All-American honors for fourth place.
In the 400 meter prelims, Jacob Erickson drew lane one in the first heat. The 2010 WHAC champion in the event ran a strong 48.73 to advance to the Friday's semi-finals by taking third in his heat.
Zach Ripley and Alex Green took third and fourth in their heat of the 3,000 meter steeplechase with Zach clocking 9:16.15 and Alex 9:18.88. Both advance to Saturday's final.
Cornerstone's pair of 400 hurdler raced near their season bests. John Klumpp ran 55.44 to take sixth in his heat while Kurtis Koffkey finished seventh in 55.73. Neither Klumpp or Koffkey advanced to the semi-finals.
