(Marion, Ind.) Zach Ripley has finished 2nd in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase the last two years but that just served as extra motivation for the senior to come back one last time and to strive for the title. Ripley jumped out pretty early in the race and led the pack for the majority of the race and won in a time of 8:57.17 to become National Champion. Ripley crossed the finish line 2.66 seconds ahead of 2nd place Cody Bordewyk of Black Hills State. They were the only two competitors to break the 9 minute mark on the day. Ripley picked up 10 points for the Golden Eagles and teammate Alex Green picked up 2 points after finishing 7th with a time of 9:17.21to give Cornerstone 22 points. The Golden Eagles were tied for 4th place with Shorter (Ga.) and Lindenwood (Mo.) after 12 events scored.
Senior Stephan Larson was the only other competitor for the men's team today. Larson finished 18th in the Marathon clocking a time of 2:44:08.70 in the 26.2 mile event. Larson finished in front of 31 other athletes. The Golden Eagles finished 15th overall with 22 points in the championships. Wayland Baptist (Texas) won the team title with 70 points. Indiana Tech finished 38th (7 points) and was the only other WHAC school to score points at the Championships.
