The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead but the Racers hung tough through the first 6 minutes of play. Tara Olberding's 3-pointer put UNO up 9-8 and the Racers would not trail the rest of the half. UNO went up 25-15 with 9:37 left on the clock when Amanda Francis drained a 3-pointer. The Racers built a 12 point lead on three occasions. The last of those 12 point leads (41-29) came with 1:55 left in the first half. The Golden Eagles did finish the half with a 5-1 run to bring the score to 42-34 as they went into the locker room. The Racers were able to maintain that lead for the first 11 minutes of the second half. Cornerstone made an 8-0 run in a 2 minute span capped off by an Ellisha Crosby 3-pointer and a steal and layup by Melissa Veltkamp to tie the score at 59-59. The Golden Eagles were not able to capture the lead over the next five minutes but they kept it close until Robyn Veltkamp tied the score at 2:24 and then Brooke Carter put Cornerstone up 70-68 with 1:22 left in the game. Cornerstone turned the ball over with :22 seconds left to give UNOH the ball. The Golden Eagles had only 2 fouls in the half so they fouled the Racers a couple of times to draw the clock down. The Racers were able to move the ball and found Shaye Warman open and she made a 3-pointer to give UNOH a 71-70 lead with 4.1 seconds left on the clock. The Golden Eagles threw the ball into Robyn Veltkamp and she drove down the middle of the court with the ball and was fouled. The clock did not show any time left but the buzzer had not gone off yet so there was less than .1 left as Veltkamp stepped to the line. She calmly made the first shot of the one and one to tie the score at 71-71 and then drained the second to put the Golden Eagles up 72-71. The Racers threw the ball in and the horn sounded to end the game.
The Golden Eagles will host Madonna on Wednesday at 7:30.
