The Panthers won the battle of the boards 44-35 but shot only 38.9% (28-72) from the floor while Cornerstone shot 51.9% (27-52) from the field.
It was the battle for first place in the WHAC and it turned out to be a very good game to watch as the Golden Eagles held on and defeated the Panthers 84-76. The first half featured 3 ties and 13 lead changes as the teams battled back and forth. The Golden Eagles largest lead of the half came at the end of the half after making a 10-0 run over the last 2:58 of play. The Golden Eagles shot 56.7% (17-30) from the floor in the first half. Cornerstone maintained about a 10 point margin for the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Panthers cut the lead below 10 (60-52) with 10:14 left in the game and then whittled the score down to (64-63) with 5:57 left in the half. The Golden Eagles responded with a 12-3 run over the next 2 ½ minutes and then held the Panthers off down the stretch to win 84-76. The Golden Eagles had six players (Ronald Bates, Bryan Pasciak, Caleb Simons, Ted Albert, Wes Hudson, and Justin Yoder) that all scored in double figures in the game.
The Golden Eagles will host University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 22nd at 3:00 p.m. to start the second round of WHAC play. Cornerstone defeated UNO 90-64 in their first meeting.
