The Golden Eagles trailed most of the first half against Concordia today but they did take the lead late in the first half on a Wes Hudson 3-pointer with 4:29 left in the half. The teams traded leads a couple of times before the end of the half and Cornerstone finished up 44-42. Kelvin DeVries tied a 22 year old record set by Scott O'Day (1986-89) for 3-pointers made in a career with 266 with 2 made shots from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles maintained their lead for the first 8:03 of the second half. The Golden Eagles scored the first 7 points of the 2nd half and pushed the lead to 51-42 with 17:38 left on the clock. Concordia responded with a 15-4 run over the next 5:41 to take their first lead (57-55) of the 2nd half at 11:57. The teams battled back and forth with 5 ties and 4 lead changes over the last 12 minutes before ending in a 72-72 tie. Ronald Bates hit a big 3-pointer with :09 seconds to tie the score at 72-all. Concordia's Marius Williams had a chance to put the Golden Eagles away with 2 foul shots with just under :03 seconds but missed both and the game went into OT. Cornerstone took an early lead in OT but Concordia tied the game at 78-78 on the first of 2 free throws with 2:39 on the clock and would take the lead on the second free throw by Rocko Holmes. The Cardinals would not trail again as they went on to defeat the Golden Eagles for the first time in WHAC play this season. Cornerstone drops to 17-3 on the season and 6-1 in the WHAC.
The Golden Eagles will host cross town rival Davenport on Wednesday,
Jan. 19th at 7:30 p.m. That
game will be carried live on WBBL 107.3 FM.
