The Golden Eagles matched up against a very scrappy Concordia team this afternoon and came away with a 63-62 OT victory over the Cardinals. The first half featured 8 ties and 7 lead changes. Cornerstone's largest lead was 5-0 with 17:55 left in the first half. Concordia's largest lead (29-25) came with 3:17 left on the clock. The Cardinals finished the half up 31-30. The Golden Eagles largest lead in the 2nd half came with 9:42 remaining on an Alicia TerHaar shot that put Cornerstone up 45-38. The Cardinals battled back and finally tied the score at 55-55 with :38 seconds left in the game on the first of two foul shots. Kelly Sieslak missed the 2nd foul shot but grabbed the rebound and set up for a final shot. They missed the shot and Cornerstone got the rebound and sprinted down the floor. Robyn Veltkamp drove the lane and dropped the ball off to Brooke Carter but Carter couldn't convert and the game went to overtime. The Golden Eagles made their first shot in OT and never trailed again as they went on to defeat the Cardinals 63-62. Cornerstone improves to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in the WHAC.
The Golden Eagles will travel over to Davenport to take on the #1 Panthers on Wednesday, Jan. 19th at 6:00 p.m.
