The #5 Cornerstone women's basketball team takes on top ranked Northwestern (Iowa) at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 30th at Davenport University. This will be the second year in a row the Golden Eagles have played a team ranked #1 in the NAIA polls. Last year Cornerstone defeated #1 Davenport University on Jan. 27th at home 65-54.
The Red Raiders boast an 18 game winning streak dating back to last season's NAIA tournament run in which they were crowned National Champions. NWC ranks #2 in scoring offense averaging 89ppg and #1 in field goal percentage at 52 percent. The Golden Eagles are #5 in field goal defense holding teams to 34 percent.
Cornerstone is 1-1 all-time against the Red Raiders with both games taking place at the national tournament. The Red Raiders defeated CU in the second round of the 2007-2008 tournament (86-57) and went on to win National Championship that year. The Golden Eagles defeated the Red Raiders in the quarterfinals (69-68) in the 2001-2002 tournament and CU finished runner-up national champions.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will play two home conference games, beginning with Indiana Tech on Jan. 5th at 7:30 pm and followed by a double header with the #3 men's team on Saturday, Jan. 8th against UM-Dearborn with tip-off slated for 1pm.
