Caleb Simons fouled out with 2:49 to play in the game. Central Michigan had 16 offensive rebounds to CU's 9. CMU scored 20 second chance points to CU's 10. CU had 19 turnovers to CMU's 7. Central scored 17 points off turnovers while CU scored 6 points off turnovers.
There were 4 lead changes and 8 ties. Ronald Bates and Derek Kingshott scored 9 and 8 points respectively in the first half. CMU's Derek Jackson hit a 3-pointer with 3:00 minutes to play in the first half to give the Chippewas a 9 point lead (28-19) their largest of the night. The Golden Eagles responded and Ted Albert cut the lead to 28-26 with 1:31 remaining. Trey Zeigler hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds remaining to give CMU a four point halftime lead (31-27). Bryan Pasciak, Kelvin DeVries and Caleb Simons each had two fouls entering the 2nd half.
Kelvin DeVries scored 10 seconds into the second half and Caleb Simons connected on a free-throw to cut the lead to 1 (31-30). The Golden Eagles would take the lead 4 times in the second half but two points. The final lead was on a Derek Kingshott basket in the paint with 7:46 remaining (41-43). Bates hit a 3 pointer with 6:56 remaining to tie it at 46-46. CMU went on a 6-0 run over the course of one minute to take a 54-48 lead with 2:51 remaining. CU would cut it to 3 (61-58) with 19 seconds remaining but were forced to foul and Jalin Thomas hit both free-throws to put the game out of reach.
