The Golden Eagles held the lead for most of the first half but Aquinas took the lead with 34 seconds remaining and finished the half up 31-28. Aquinas came out in the second half and built the lead to 50-41 with 10:39 left in the game. Cornerstone chipped away at the lead throughout the remainder of the half and finally tied the game at 59-59 with 4:16 left on the clock. Cornerstone responded with a 3-point shot by Kelvin DeVries and they kept the lead until Damacious White sank a 2-point shot with 5 seconds on the clock. Cornerstone could not get off a shot as the clock ran out with both teams tied at 70-70. Ronald Bates opened the overtime period with a 3-pointer to give Cornerstone a 73-70 lead and the Golden Eagles would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the OT but it would not end with some excitement. Jamell Hatchett had 2 free throws with 2.3 seconds remaining on the clock. He made the crucial first shot to bring the score to 79-77. Cornerstone called timeout before the second shot. Hatchett came out and missed the second shot on purpose but Derek Kingshott got the rebound. Kingshott called a timeout as Aquinas tried to steal the ball but Cornerstone was out of timeouts so a technical foul was called on Cornerstone. Aquinas sent Damacious White to the line with a chance to tie the game with .3 seconds left on the clock. White made the first but missed the second shot and Cornerstone escaped with a 79-78 victory.
