(Saginaw, Mich) The Cornerstone University Men's Track & Field team opened the 2010-2011 season at the Holiday Classic Hosted by Saginaw Valley State University.
In the first running event of the evening, the 5,000 meters, Alex Green led from the gun in pursuit of the NAIA national qualifying standard of 15:15.75. Alex covered the first mile in 4:45, fifteen seconds ahead of the field. One lap after passing two miles in 9:36, the senior began lapping other runners. With two laps to go Green had lapped the entire field. A strong 32.3 second final lap gave him the win and the first national qualifying mark for a Cornerstone athlete. His time of 15:01.24 was just two seconds off his personal best set last season. Peter Kaijala finished sixth in 16:18.24.
Other top CU finishes included Spencer Perry taking third in the high jump, clearing 6' 3.25" and Chad Butler tying for third in the pole vault at 13' 6." Eric Schroeder placed fourth in the long jump with a personal best 19' 3.5" and Zach Yeo was fourth in the 400 meters with his 50.94 clocking.
The meet concluded with Schroeder, Adam Duerksen, John Klumpp and Yeo racing to third place in the 4 x 400 relay in 3:32.94.
