The Golden Eagles went into their National Tournament Opening Round game knowing that they would have their work cut out for them because Lindsey Wilson is such a good possession team. That proved to be true for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone did play very well in the opening half. Lindsey Wilson was able to possess the ball for long periods of time but the Golden Eagles did a nice job of containing their possession to the midfield and in Lindsey's defensive third of the field. The Golden Eagles had the best chance of the half on a corner kick. Anna Stegink
served in a great ball that Ashleigh Lund
headed toward the goal and Jen Kuipers
flicked on toward the net. Lindsey Wilson's GK made a diving save just getting her fingertips on the ball to knock it wide of the goal. Both teams finished with 2 shots in the first half. The Blue Raiders got on the board in the first minute of the 2nd half when they pounced on a rebound off of an Alyssa Morrow
save a knocked it in to the open net. The Blue Raiders struck again 12 minutes into the 2nd half on a header off of a corner kick. Lindsey Wilson scored their third goal just 10 minutes later on a great individual effort by Mia Persson who took a pass in the box beat a defender and calmly slid the ball past Morrow into the far post. The Golden Eagles kept them off the board for the remainder of the half but never really threatened the goal much in the half. Lindsey Wilson outshot the Golden Eagles 8-3 on the game. Cornerstone finishes the season 11-7-2 and WHAC Regular Season and Tournament Champs.
