The Golden Eagles held off a scrappy Holy Cross team down the stretch and defeated the Saints 75-64. Cornerstone led by 11 with about 4:50 remaining but Holy Cross cut the lead to 4 points (68-64) with just over a minute remaining. That would be the last time they would score and they had to foul the Golden Eagles down the stretch as they extended the lead back to 11 to finish the game.
Robyn Veltkamp led the Golden Eagles attach scoring 27 points and pulling down 7 rebounds. Veltkamp made 9 of her 14 shots from the field and she dropped 9 of 10 from the foul line for a total of 27 points. Freshman Ellisha Crosby had an outstanding game recording her first career double double. She scored 21 points on 6-12 shooting (1-4 from 3 point range) and a perfect 8 of 8 from the charity stripe and pulled down 10 rebounds. Melissa Veltkamp was the only other Golden Eagles to score in double figures finishing with 10 points on the night. Cornerstone shot 35.9% from the field which included just 4 of 23 from behind the arc. They did hit an impressive 20 of 23 from the foul line. Cornerstone improves to 2-0 on the season. They will return to action on Saturday when they travel back over to Illinois to take on Trinity Christian at 2:00 p.m.
