The Golden Eagles finished the weekend with two more wins to go 4-0 for the weekend. After winning two five game matches on Friday, CU opened Saturday with a 3-1 win over Rochester College. Rochester won the first game 25-19 and CU won the next three 25-15, 26-24, 25-18. Jodi Grandholm
led the team with 12 kills. Becky Albrecht
quarter-backed the team at setter and finished with 29 assists and 3 blocks. Abby Meidema was the dig leader with 10 and Alicia TerHaar added 10 blocks.
The Golden Eagles started the second match of the day versus St. Francis Ind. with a loss in the first game 25-19. But CU rallied to win the next three 25-14, 25-23, 25-23 to finish the weekend undefeated and improve to 14-23. Alicia TerHaar and Kate Zwier were the kill leaders with 11 each and Jodi Grandholm added 10. Abby Miedema finished with a team high 12 digs and TerHaar led the team with 7 blocks.
Cornerstone and Aquinas both went 4-0 on the weekend but the Saints took home the trophy because they won 12 games and lost only 2 while CU won 12 games and lost 6. Katie VanderMeer from Aquinas was the tournament MVP. Alicia TerHaar and Abby Meidema were selected to the first team all-tournament squad and Becky Albrecht was selected to the second team.
The Golden Eagles travel to Concordia on Tuesday, Nov. 2 and then host Madonna on Thursday, November 4 at 7pm for their final WHAC regular season match of the season. Wear your country gear and participate in country line dancing after the match, all proceeds of the match on Thursday will go to Gilda's Club. Seniors Alicia TerHaar, Sarah Miller
and Kim Totten
will be recognized at the match as well.
