CU opened the second half with a full court press and forced some early Trojan turnovers and went on a 13-2 run to start the half. Trinity International put on a full court press of their own and hit a few three's to get right back into the game. Cornerstone went 10-20 in the second half at the free-throw line which also helped keep the Trojans in the game. CU kept their composure and got some key offensive rebounds by Kayleigh Hammond, Ellisha Crosby and Melissa Veltkamp which resulted in a score. Although CU was cold from the free-throw line most of the game the Golden Eagles hit them in the final minutes to escape with a 66-60 win.
The Golden Eagles were led by Brooke Carter's 14 points 9 rebounds and Robyn Veltkamp finished in double figures with 12. CU's bench scored 24 points led by Kayleigh Hammond's 8 points and Ellisha Crosby's 8 points. Freshman Maria Schafer had 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 block and junior Ashley Moon was perfect from the FT line (4-4) and had a field goal for 6 points.. Melanie Duplessis from Trinity International led all scorers with 20 points. Cornerstone will host Holy Cross (Ind.) on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7pm for their home-opener.
