GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The 4th annual GR-area WHAC Basketball Media Day is set for Tuesday, October 26 from 10:30am - 12:00pm. Davenport University will serve as the host once again as they welcome in the men's and women's basketball coaches from Aquinas College and Cornerstone University.
The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) recently released their pre-season all-conference selections and all three Grand Rapids schools were well represented on both the men's and women's sides. The CU men were picked to claim their second straight league title, while the DU women were selected to make it five regular season championships in a row come February.
With the talent and success of the conference, the teams have gained local, regional and national attention from the media and they will have the chance to get a head start on the exposure on Tuesday, October 26 at Davenport Universities Student Center as each school will bring their head coach and one student-athlete for "Media Day".
Davenport University will be represented by head men's coach Burt Paddock and one of three seniors in Nathan Cox. Head coach Mark Youngs will be there for the women's team as he will be joined by senior Kallie Benike.
Cornerstone University will be represented by head men's coach Kim Elders and one of his senior standouts in Kelvin Devries or Caleb Simons. The women's head coach Carla Fles will be joined by Melissa Veltkamp.
Aquinas College, who will play in a new gymnasium in 2010-2011, will have head coaches Linda Nash and Dave Hammer available along with student-athletes Matt Weiss, Taelor Sanders and Anne Marie Shumaker.
Each team will provide the local media with information on the upcoming season including schedules, rosters, quick facts and pictures and will be available for interviews.
The entire day will be broadcast on the Davenport Athletics Network (DAN) hosted by Gene Halbert and Ken Clemens.
