(Joliet, Ill.) Playing in the Big Guns Tournament at St. Francis University in Joliet Ill. the Golden Eagles faced Bethel College and William Penn on the first day of the tournament. In the first match-up versus Bethel, Cornerstone had to come from behind to force a 5th game losing the first two games 20-25, 22-25.CU won 25-17 and 25-20 in the third and fourth game but the Pilots regrouped and won 15-11. The Golden Eagles lost to the Pilots in five games earlier this season on Sept. 17.
In the second match of the night CU faced William Penn (Iowa) and once again found themselves in a five game match. William Penn won the first game 17-25, CU took the second 25-23, lost the third 21-25 and won the fourth 25-20 to set up the deciding fifth game. Going into the game CU was 1-5 in five set matches. CU could not close the match with a win losing 13-15 and dropping their fifth straight match (9-19). Cornerstone will face Saint Ambrose at noon and St. Francis Ill. at 2pm.
